About Chiropractic
Chiropractors don't fix anything... you do!
Your body is amazing. It has the ability to heal, repair, grow and adapt. The daily stresses and strains that you place on your body often result in interference to its natural working ability. Given the correct tools these stresses and strains can be overcome and you can perform at an optimal level. Chiropractic, at Acacia Health, is about helping people live healthier, fuller lives. This is achieved through both passive and active therapy.
What is passive therapy?
This is traditional chiropractic management. While typically thought of as “bone doctors”, chiropractors actually focus on painlessly, manually adjusting the joints within your body in order to positively affect your overall function, structure and health. At Acacia Health a chiropractic treatment goes beyond your typical spinal adjustment. All chiropractic sessions are targeted at your individual needs and involve the following:
• A thorough examination and history taking (initial and then on-going)
• Soft tissue therapy i.e. massage, trigger point therapy etc
• Chiropractic adjustments
• Passive stretching
• Active therapy (see below for further details)
Passive therapy is however seen as only the initial step to you ultimately achieving the goal of optimal health. At Acacia health we believe that giving you the tools and the knowledge to sustain and continually improve your overall health and well-being is most important. The “passive” therapy that the chiropractor provides for you will be your first step towards optimal health at Acacia Health. This is where “active therapy” comes into the picture.
What is Active therapy?
Active therapy goes beyond traditional chiropractic management and ensures that you become completely involved in achieving your long-term goal of freedom from pain and eventually optimal health. Depending on your current level of health, mobility and fitness the chiropractor will recommend and guide you through a program that will be designed to enhance your lifestyle.
Elements of your active therapy may include:
• Physical activity: this usually takes the form of non-weight bearing, posture enhancing exercises such as Pilates, yoga, swimming and weights training. For some individuals further recommendations for more vigorous activities may be included too. For example walking, jogging, cycling and participation in various sporting activities may even be encouraged. All recommendations in terms of physical activity are to ensure that your body is in the best shape possible to respond at an optimal level to the passive therapy that the chiropractor will be providing for you.
• Nutrition: Depending on your weight, energy levels and general overall health, the chiropractor may even suggest a session with our Dietitian. Being at a healthy weight and consuming a healthy, well-balanced diet will again ensure that your body is in the best shape possible to respond at an optimal level to the passive therapy that the chiropractor will be providing for you.
You can be assured that your Chiropractor at Acacia Health is fully committed to assisting you to move upwards along the health spectrum towards optimal health and well-being.
